Indications:
-Macrocytic anemia or secondary Megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency, liver disease, alcoholism, Ileus, excessive hemolysis.
-Prevent pregnancy megaloblastic anemia and fetal injuries
– Dietary supplement
PHARMACOLOGIC ACTIONS
Folic acid is a type of B vitamin that is normally found in some foods especially vegetables. This vitamin is required to build DNA and completing number of key reactions in the body normal metabolism. Folic acid is an important nutrient in preventing from neural tube defects in pregnancy and also reducing the risk of atherosclerosis, because of high homocysteine levels. Folic acid stimulates producing red and white blood cells and platelets in some megaloblastic anemias.
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Each tablet contains 1 mg of folic acid
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
One tablet a day (In case of discretion of the physician, taking the medicine is permitted in higher dose).
INTERACTIONS
Folic acid can increase metabolism of Anticonvulsants drugs such as phenytoin and phenobarbital. Phenytoin and Primidone may reduce serum concentrations of folate, and in the case of long-term use, can cause folic acid deficiency symptoms. Folic acid antagonists (pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, triamterene, chloramphenicol, and methotrexate) and contraceptive pills may cause dihydrofolate reductase deficiency and therefore may disrupt the Function of folic acid.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
This product is well tolerated at the recommended dosage. Digestive disorders and allergic reactions rarely have been reported.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & PRECAUTIONS
Usage have been contraindicated in patients who have undiagnosed Pernicious anemia, because it covers the anemia symptoms. Also it has been contradicted in patients who have Pernicious anemia and other secondary Megaloblastic anemia to vitamin B12 deficiency.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Is not contraindicated.
